Heading into the Holidays!

It's been a flurry of activity for me this month--I've had music gigs every weekend (and next year seems to be gearing up for a busy musical time--Yah!)

Planning fitness classes for the new year has also been keeping me busy--originally I planned to offer 5 Bodysculpt classes a week but the opportunity to offer a yoga class presented itself--so, starting mid-January, we'll have a yoga class Thursday evenings from 7 - 8:30 with Wendy Weir... we have new yoga supplies coming to accommodate that. I think this is great as I'll be able to take some yoga as well! Bonus!

Things are shaping up for the Kids & Parents class I'm offering for January--the invites have been going out and I already have a couple of confirmations...

Last week I attended a Christmas sale at my favorite supplier of all things functional fitness--Twist Conditioning--I stocked up on supplies for the gym and things that will be usefull for new classes--2 more bosu balls, deluxe stability balls, gliding discs, foam rollers, a new medicine ball, hanging abs, agility pods... lots of fun!

Hope you have a great holiday season and remember, throwing snowballs is a great form of exercise!

Island Fitness Conference

I spent the weekend at a fitness conference on Vancouver Island where I attended workshops and got my first aid re-certification (which we're required to do every couple of years). We had a few choices of what we could take and I, accidentally really, took every workshop given by Len Kravitz. A doctor and exercise researcher. He is amazing!
I took workshops on metabolism, abdominal conditioning, women & weight loss, and advanced flexibility (stuff people always want help with)... learned lots! I highly recommend you check out his website--and don't be put off by the cheesy appearance--it's got tons of great articles on everything to do with fitness. A wealth of information and great links to boot.

Back to Fitness - Back the Cat Challenge

The Garage hosted the Back to Fitness - Back the Cat Challenge this past weekend--and, what can I say... although the turn-out wasn't as good as it could have been, it was a beautiful day and everyone who attended had fun--we skipped, we hula-hooped, we did resistance band exercises and stretches... we even ended the session with a group massage led by Karin Bergen, RMT.

There was also a draw for prizes. And the winners were:

Paul Steenhuis - 3 personal training sessions
Marlene Lowden - Massage
Paul Hood - Acu-Hoop hula hoop

To me, in order to start or continue with an exercise routine, it's essential that you find an activity or activities you like to do and have fun! That's pretty basic. The challenge was an opportunity for people to try everything from boot camp and yoga to circuit training, personal training and hula hooping. And with the proceeds going to help healthcare on the coast--what could be better? I still think it's a good idea--get people moving/raise money for a good cause... maybe we'll make it an annual event!

Thanks to everyone who supported this event!
